This article
describes the development and importance of devices to improve patient
compliance and presents information on why some devices have been accepted very
positively by patients and health care professionals. Some of these reminder tools include
mechanical devices like pill boxes, calendars printed on the blister cards and
wallet packs that hold a strip of medication, electronic reminders like
wristwatches programmable to dosing schedules, reminder software for personal computers
or personal digital assistant. The authors conclude that the majority of the
patients accept well the use of devices to improve their compliance and a
majority of respondents expressed the desire to continue its use.
